Wars and Ships and Military Service

This is the original USS Constellation which Grandad, Rufus L. Burnett, first served on after he joined the U.S. Navy. It is now a National Historic Place/Landmark.

There are so many of our ancestors who served in the military and many of them served during war time. I'm keeping a running list of those persons and their military duty to include in my book.

The dates of the different wars are as follows:

  • American Revolution: April 14, 1775-September 3, 1783

  • American Civil War: April 12, 1861-May 9, 1865

  • Spanish American War: 1898

  • World War I: July 28, 1914-November 11, 1918

  • World War II: September 1, 1939-September 2, 1945

  • Korean War: June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953

This is the ship he was on during WWI. The USS Moldegaard.
