On the Road Again

This is a Durant. Grandad, Rufus Lee Burnett, owned one of these in the early 1930s. It was quite a pretty car in its time. Uncle Roy said people were always stopping to look at it.

He also said it was Grandmother's car and that when Grandad went to work for MacKenzie Motor Co. in Hillsboro, Oregon, it wasn't easy living with Grandmother after he sold it!

She once drove the Durant from Portland, Oregon to Birmingham, Alabama to pick up Grandad's family. The Depression had hit and they were out of work and hungry, like so many other Americans at the time. Unfortunately, the day before she arrived back in Portland with the car full of people, Grandad lost his job.

I'll have more stories like this in my book!

Ta ta for now,

Nancy
